Privacy notice

Who we are
Unbothered is made by Luitlabs, Guwahati, Assam, India. Luitlabs is the data fiduciary for the data described here under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Contact and grievances: hello@unbothered.you.
What we keep on our server
| Data | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your Google account email | To sign you in. We receive only the email and a confirmation from Google that it's yours; never your Google password. | Until you delete your account |
| The name you choose and your city | Shown on your posts and comments | Until you delete your account |
| Your mobile number, if you give it | Only so your family members in Unbothered can call you. Other members never see it. | Until you remove it or delete your account |
| Posts, comments, photos, reactions and poll votes | The community feed. Photos have location and camera details removed when uploaded. Anonymous posts hide your name from members; moderators can still see who wrote them, to keep the community safe. | Until you or a moderator delete them, or you delete your account. Photos never attached to a post are deleted after 24 hours. |
| Reports and blocks | Moderation and keeping people away from you | Until you delete your account |
| Daughters' accounts (family accounts, ages 13–17) | Her name, Google email, mobile number and month and year of birth, and her parent's recorded consent | Until her parent deletes it. At 18 it becomes her own account. |
| A daughter's location during a trip she starts | Shown live to her family only while the trip runs | The route is deleted when the trip ends. A short summary (start, end, how it ended) is deleted after 24 hours. |
| Your location during an SOS or a Walk With Me (live link) | Your SOS and walk texts carry a link where the people you send them to can follow you on a map. Anyone with that link sees your community name, where you are and your route so far; nobody else can find it. The link shows no location until it's in use. | Only while the SOS or walk runs: the route is deleted the moment you end it, and after 12 hours at most. The link then says only how it ended (for example "safe at 22:14"), and stops working 24 hours later. |
What stays only on your phone
These never reach our server:
- Your emergency contacts and your PIN.
- Your full record of an SOS or a Walk With Me. Texts go by SMS from your own number, only to your emergency contacts; the only copy on our server is the live link above, deleted when you end it. Routes are kept on your phone for 7 days after a walk and 30 days after an SOS.
- Sound recorded during an SOS, kept as evidence for you.
- Your private incident diary.
- Your course progress and certificates.
Signing out or deleting your account removes all of this from the phone.
Permissions the Android app asks for
- Location, including "Allow all the time". To record your route during an SOS or a walk with the screen off, and for the power-button SOS. Location is used only while an SOS, a walk or a daughter's trip is running.
- Send SMS. To text your emergency contacts during an SOS without needing the internet, only if you turn on "Send SOS texts automatically". Texts go from your own number and your normal SMS charges apply.
- Microphone. To record sound during an SOS.
- Notifications, run at startup, battery settings. So an active SOS or walk keeps running after the phone restarts or goes to sleep.
Every permission is optional. Without one, that feature asks you to act yourself (for example, opening your messages app to send the text).
Who else handles your data
- Google Cloud and Firebase (Google) host our server and photos in Mumbai, India, and provide Google sign-in.
- Neon runs our database, on Amazon Web Services in Singapore.
- Cloudflare serves unbothered.you and stores the waitlist.
- Luitmails (Luitlabs' own email service) carries the emails we send and receive.
- Your mobile network carries SOS texts you send.
- Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data), which sees the area of the map being shown, not who you are.
We don't sell or rent personal data. Today the app shows no ads and uses no advertising or analytics trackers. If we add ads to the community feed later, we'll update this notice and tell you in the app before they start. SOS, Walk With Me, the diary and daughters' accounts (13–17) will never carry ads, and nothing about anyone under 18 is ever used for advertising.
Backups
Our database is backed up daily. Backups are kept for up to 14 days, so data you delete disappears from them within 14 days.
The waitlist on unbothered.you
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email, the language you read the page in, and your confirmation that you're 18 or older. We use them only to email you when Unbothered launches and when there's news, never for anything else, and we never share them. Every email has a link to leave the list, or write to hello@unbothered.you and we'll delete your email. To stop repeated sign-ups, we briefly keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your internet address and delete it within an hour.
Children
The community is for women aged 18 and over. Daughters aged 13 to 17 can have a family account only when their parent makes it and gives consent. A family account can't see or use the community; its location is shared only in real time, only during a trip the daughter starts herself, for her safety, as allowed by the DPDP Rules, 2025.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act, 2023 you can ask to see, correct or erase your data, withdraw consent, nominate someone to act for you, and raise a grievance. You can correct your name, city and number in the app, and delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account). For anything else, write to hello@unbothered.you; we reply within 7 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Deleting your account
See how to delete your account and data.
Changes
If we change this notice in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
